Weldon Flavorings began in 1995 with its original owners, Dennis and Brenda Weldon. While running a coffee catering business, they began their search for a coffee flavoring that allowed each individual person to customize a single cup of coffee to their own taste. However, they were only able to find flavors that included sweetener, syrup, creamer, or other ingredients that disallowed options for those who liked to drink their coffee black or otherwise unsweetened. Thus, the Weldon Flavorings brand was born.

The two began to develop liquid flavorings that were pure flavor. They contained no sugar, artificial sweeteners, fats, sodium, creamer, or caffeine. Their flavors allowed every person to start with just black coffee in their cup and customize their drink to their individual taste — adding creamer and sweetener, if desired.
